The main aim of the Foundation is to promote South Asian Art and support Medically related projects and initiatives worldwide.  The medical relief goals involve educating and transferring state of the art surgical skills to the future leaders of medical delivery system in the developing nations and providing material assistance with acquisition of new technology or replacement of aging equipment and facilities in international institutions. The support for art related projects involves distribution of grant support to Not for Profit organizations or gig grants for performance related activities to the organizations that focus on recounting and highlighting the stories of the South Asian American and related minority communities.

The impetus for establishing the Foundation was the Balkan conflict in the early 1992, which necessitated pulling together all kinds of resources to deal with the medical, psychological, social and resettlement issues involved with this tragedy.  Initially, the Hundal Foundation was primarily involved in collecting funds and networking with other organizations to raise awareness about the tragedy unfolding at that time. Later, during the conflict, patients with severe traumatic injuries were evacuated to Chicago’s leading university hospitals for medical care and rehabilitation until they were either ready to go back to their countries of origin or they were gainfully resettled in the United States.

During the earthquake in Pakistan in 2005, the Hundal Foundation partnered with the Chal Foundation to help in establishing Rehabilitation centers in the Northern areas of Pakistan for people disabled by injuries sustained in the calamity.
